I've been working in content for nearly 10 years. I've been lucky enough to work on a range of different projects including translation, proofing, editing, copywriting, transcreation, audits, SEO, localization, subtitling, transcription...
I worked with luxury clients mostly, in beauty, cosmetics, jewellery, watchmaking, fashion, haute couture, perfume and leather goods. But I realised the stylistic choices I was making were more for the client than the actual user. I discovered the concept of UX and it seemed so great, so obvious, it was 2019 and I was in love.
With the pandemic came a lot of change. For me, for most people. Suddenly we were consuming a lot more online and a lot of new tech suddenly, quickly had to pop up and serve a specific purpose. People had to use tech in a way that was new for them and in the urgency of the situation, unfortunately a lot of it wasn't working as it could. I knew I wanted to make the logical transition and bring those skills I'd developed working in content to a UX sensibility.
There is a lot in life that can't be changed. But there is a lot we can change. I believe in the power of UX design and UX writing to help us. After all, life is hard enough — why make things harder than they need to be? Clearly the pandemic isn't over yet but a new era of UX is definitely coming.
